God is not part of our story. We are part of His story. God is the gracious creator and keeper of everything, seen and unseen. Because of great love, He sent His beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to seek and restore the people who had become separated from Him.
God is calling people back to Himself. To be a part of what He is doing now and forever will do. He is the true dwelling place of His people, the One they were made for. And through faith in Jesus, His people are restored to Him by grace.
The bible is God's very word written down for people. In the biblical scriptures, a limitless and eternal God reveals Himself. His nature and attributes are displayed in black and white so people can know Him. And in the bible, God reveals His plan to restore people to Himself. Every page of the Bible points to Jesus, the One who came in humility to lay His life down to save the people who would call upon Him in faith.
The Word of God is living and powerful, and when people are exposed to it, it changes them. We love God's book!
The religious striving of people always fails. Working for God's favor isn't sustainable. The efforts of people lead to either despair (when they fail) or religious arrogance (when they think they have met God's standards).
Our rebellion has left us spiritually dead and unable to please God. But God did not leave us in our despair. He sent Jesus to us. Jesus left heaven and humbled Himself for our sake. He has met all of God's demands, and took the punishment for everyone that would call upon Him in faith.
When people leave moral striving in effort to be 'ok' with God, and instead focus in the person and work of Jesus Christ, it changes everything. Motivations change. Heavy religious burdens become light.
Jesus Christ is beautiful, gracious, and what His people have always been looking for. No longer do they have to fruitlessly strive to please God for blessing. In Jesus, God's blessing comes to us apart from how we have lived. This is good news. And believing this good news, in turn, changes the way we live.
Resting in Jesus
Many people think Christianity is about moral performance. Do lots of good things, don't do bad things. The truth is that our moral performance always falls short of a totally pure God.
True Christianity is about the finished work of Jesus Christ. God the Father is pleased in Jesus and His finished work at the cross. When we put our faith in Jesus, God is pleased with us. The righteousness of Jesus becomes ours by faith. We rest in what He has done. Our striving can now cease. This is truly good news. Come rest in Jesus Christ.
God sent Jesus to us to restore His people to Himself. Jesus came in humility to save. He is the One who brings peace with God. He defeated death and sin on the cross.
We have not kept God's commandments to love Him wholly or to love our neighbor perfectly. Jesus Christ has done both. The righteous life that Jesus kept His law perfectly, and His death on the cross paid for the sin of those who have not lived perfectly. His work of redemption is finished.
Come join us in celebration of the Son of God, who takes away the sin of the world.
On our own we are estranged from our Creator, going in a separate direction from Him. In rebellion, we are guilty before Him.
So what happens when (out of great love) God sends His Son to take the punishment for guilty people? What happens when the guilty people, deserving of punishment, are instead shown mercy? What happens when they are restored to the God who created them, loves them, and who knows them better than they even know themselves? What happens? They can't help but tell others (out of great joy)! And when we have joy in Christ, He receives glory.
We want Jesus to be glorified, and we want more people to know of His goodness and grace.
